6 Reasons to Go VoIP

  1. If you are moving into a new office and you can control the cabling that will be installed. Keep in mind that most IP
systems support the phones and the your pc on the same cable.  So this means that when you are getting your office
cabled you only have to put one cable drop in each office. This will save you money.
  2. Having multiple offices and switching to an IP system makes a lot of sense because it makes it easier to connect the offices with IP trunks.  Some Digital systems will use this technology but typically the IP system is more efficient.
  3. If you have a lot of users at a location and they move offices frequently, then IP is great solution because you can pick up John's phone from office 201 and plug it in office 302 and his extension information will move with the phone. You don't have to go into the system and change jack numbers, change ports or anything, you just have to pick up the phone and move it.
  4. If you work from home and you want to be connected to the office with an extension, then IP is the way to go. You can install an IP phone in your home and point it to your office phone system and no one will ever know that you're not sitting at your desk. This does require some routing and maybe some extra hardware but the benefit quickly outstrips the cost (but only if you want to work remotely.)
  5. If you want to buy the latest and greatest from a manufacturer that is on the leading edge of technology then I would suggest that you buy an IP system. There is not much R&D being spent on Digital phone systems, it's outdated.
  6. If you want a system that has easy administration. Most IP systems can be programmed thru a web interface and they are very user friendly. Digital systems are typically programmed with the phone or have proprietary client software that you must load on a desktop and the terminal or desktop is usually located in the equipment room.

Digital Phone Systems

  1. You have an old office that has very poor cabling and it is not cost effective to pull new Cat 5 or Cat 6 cabling. Digital may be the way to go for you, but you may want to take a hard look at the advantages above.
  2. You don't want desktop applications or any of the above features.
  3. You already have a digital system and you don't need any of the above features.
  4. Digital Systems average about 25% less than VoIP solutions.

In conclusion VoIP makes a lot of sense because investing in the latest technology will help simplify the growth of your communications infrastructure and ultimately your business.
